Pearl plans parking lot fall events

Pearl Community Center will be closed and Pearl Bluegrass canceled through December, but the community will still use the parking lot for some events this fall.

Ingram, Owen named to Baylor Dean’s List

WACO, Texas (July 30, 2020) – Kyndall Ingram, Robbins College of Health & Human Sciences, and Chelsea Owen, College of Arts & Sciences, were among more than 5,300 Baylor University students have been named to the Dean’s Academic Honor List for the spring 2020 semester. Students honored on the Dean’s List are Baylor undergraduates with a min imum semester grade-point average of 3.7 with no grade lower than a “C” while enrolled in a minimum of 12 graded semester hours.

TSU to honor spring and summer grads Aug. 7-9

Tarleton State University will honor spring and summer 2020 graduates during in-person commencement ceremonies on Aug. 7-9 at Memorial Stadium on the Stephenville campus.

The schedule is:

• 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7 (College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, College of Health Sciences and Human Services)

• 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 (College of Business Administration)

• 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 (College of Education)

• 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 (College of Science and Technology, College of Liberal and Fine Arts)

A&M Maritime Academy to accept training ship

WASHINGTON, D.C. & COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M University’s maritime academy is closer than any time in the past 15 years to being able to dock a training ship in Galveston. The yet-to-be-built ship would be able to take 600 cadets to sea and serve double duty as the only hurricane relief vessel in the Gulf of Mexico.

Texas’ delegation in Congress successfully included $389 million in the U.S. House of Representatives’ appropriations bill to pay for the ship. The bill passed out of the House on Friday, as it makes its way to the U.S. Senate.

Let’s Talk About… Zoning and the comprehensive plan

Title 7, Section 211.004 of the Texas Local Government Code states that zoning regulations “must be adopted in accordance with a Comprehensive Plan.”

A Comprehensive Plan lays out physical, social, economic and environmental direction for a city over a period of time. It is developed by identifying the major problems in the city, establishing goals and objectives, collecting and analyzing information, identifying and selecting alternatives to create a plan and implementation.

2 from HHS attend virtual leadership conference

Texas Farm Bureau transitioned the Youth Leadership Conference to a virtual format this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hamilton High School students Taylor Long and John Polster were among the more than 450 students who registered this year. Virtual Leadership Conference modules were open to registrants June 1-30. Those who completed modules were eligible for prizes.

Young farmer, rancher contest deadline near

Hamilton County Farm Bureau leaders urge young farmers and ranchers in the area to showcase their unique and innovate operations though Texas Farm Bureau’s annual contests.

TFB is accepting applications for Outstanding Young Farmer & Rancher and Excellence in Agriculture contests. Eligible applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35 as of Jan. 31, 2021 and be current TFB members in good standing.

Applications are due online by Aug. 3.
