Hamilton’s high school basketball teams doubledribbled last week in wearing a pair of differing hats. In addition to playing basketball, the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs too served as Santa’s helpers in collecting toys during home games for the local Goodfellows charity.

Hamilton’s varsity Bulldogs also collected a pair of wins last week, improving to 6-4 on the year. After falling to Bosqueville at home 51-47 on Tuesday, the Dogs rebounded on Friday to bounce Gatesville on the road in overtime 54-52.

EISD lobby gets facelift

Elk pride was definitely showing on the smiling faces of these EISD students gathered in the new school lobby. These students represent all ages from first grade to Senior year. Elk pride will also be permanently on display in the new lobby, thanks to the renovation of this space and the installation of a beautiful new tile floor with the Elk mascot taking center stage.

The EISD building has long needed a lobby area for parents and students waiting to see administration personnel. The old entry housed trophy cases leaving no space for visitors to comfortably wait.

Rustic Lantern offers sip & shop

Just in time for Christmas shopping, Brandee Paschal has reopened Rustic Lantern with a new sip-and-shop format that includes retail booths, a new menu from the grill and what many patrons will remember as the coldest beer in town.

“This is what I wanted to do from the beginning,” said Paschal.

The Paschals purchased the beautiful downtown building at 117 N. Rice in September 2017. Thus began an extensive remodeling journey to bring the building back to its glory while keeping the intricate hand-lathed woodwork that was installed in the late 1980s.

Boy Scouts host coat, blanket drive

Boy Scout Troup 311 is collecting new and gently used blankets and coats and new socks for Niki Warms the Cold on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church Youth Building. Pick up will be drive-thru style.

Created in memory of Cranfills Gap native Niki Carlson, Niki Warms the Cold distributes coats and blankets across the state of Texas to those in need.

Bulldog hoopsters net toys for Goodfellows

Though the COVID-19 pandemic put the kibosh on the annual Ted Jones Memorial basketball tournament, Hamilton’s Bulldog and Lady Bulldog basketball teams plan to outmaneuver the grinch this week in continuing a tradition started over a decade ago by former Bulldog basketball coach Howard Cox. In the past, the host Hamilton Bulldogs have enlisted the help of all who attend and participate in the local boys’ basketball tournament in collecting toys for a program called Hoopers Helping Kids.
