NEW EQUIPMENT- In September 2020, Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department applied for a PPE grant through the Texas Forestry Service and received $15,000 in November 2020 to purchase new protective gear. Members of the department met with a sales representative who brought samples and measured members for the gear, which was ordered in March. The gear includes 18 sets of wildland/extrication gear, 17 pairs of boots and 20 NOMEX hoods. The grant covers 90 percent of the gear, and the rest is paid by HVFD.

After almost six months as Hamilton Police Chief, Brad Boulton finally got to move his wife to Hamilton last weekend.

Amber Boulton has remained in their Lancaster home while son Buckley finished high school. He is now in Austin to attend fire academy while brother Bradley, a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University, is in the police academy and working with the Lewisville Police Department.

Reagan and Alex Reich announce the birth of their daughter Sloane ReAnn Reich.

Sloane was born on June 9 at 6:19 p.m. She was 8 pounds 12 ounces and was 20 ½ inches long.

Maternal grandparents are Rick and Melanie Housden and great-grandparents are Nancy and Doyal Billingsley. Paternal grandparents are Keith and Stacy Reich of Roseburg, Oregon and great-grandparents are Harold and Vernell Reich and Baylis and Judy Pope.

Thomas Stone and Whitley Quigg of Nolanville announce the birth of their son Andrew “Drew” James Stone.

Drew was born on June 9 at 1:21 p.m. He weighed 6 pounds 13.5 ounces and was 18 inches long.

Maternal grandparents are James and Tuwana Quigg of Hamilton and Christie Bolding of Texas City. Paternal grandparents are Terry and Nannette Stone of Georgetown.

Hunter has left the hospital!

Two and a half weeks after receiving a new heart, Hunter Yarbrough was released from the hospital on Friday.

A native of Evant, the 57-year-old was placed on the heart transplant list on April 29 after being told that he only had 24-hours earlier that month. He received the call that changed his life on May 25 and underwent surgery the next day.

“Surgery went well,” he said. “They’ve done the first biopsy and there are no signs of rejection.”

Upon discharge, Hunter went straight to a salon for a shampoo and a haircut.

St. John’s welcomes new pastor

Pastor Aaron Kalbas was welcomed to St. John Lutheran Church with a formal installation service and reception on Sunday.

“My family and I are so excited,” said Pastor Kalbas. “Hamilton has been such a welcoming place and we are thrilled to make it our home and share the love of Christ with all. I grew up in small-town/rural Texas near Giddings and I can’t wait to get to know the community better and already love the landscape and the small-town feel.”

A native to Central Texas, Pastor Kalbas was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin.

New code enforcement officer ready to help community

Hamilton’s new code enforcement officer has years of experience to help her acclimate to her role.

After 20 years in the Air Force and as a Louisiana State Trooper, Moana Moore and husband Darryl retired to Hamilton three years ago. Darryl is the new post commander for American Legion Cunningham Post 222.

“Mo,” however, also wanted to get involved in the community.

“I thought this was a good fit,” she said of the code enforcement job.

The retired Master Sergeant said problem solving is her strength and she plans to have an open-door policy.

Bear Creek bridge reopens on FM 218

The Bear Creek Bridge on FM 218 was reopened to traffic last week after crews worked to ensure the bridge met TxDOT safety standards.

TxDOT will continue roadwork on FM 218, including mill and overlay operations.

To perform these operations safely, there will be various lane closures between the project limits.

TxDOT encourages drivers to slow down, pay attention, and eliminate distractions in work zones.

The project which began in August last year is scheduled to be completed later this summer, weather permitting.
