LEGION CELEBRATES VETERANS AT 102ND ANVIL SHOOT - Guest Rick Vaughn joined American Legion Post No. 222 members Robert Jackson, Glenn Jones, Duane Cowart, Commander Darrel Moore, Hamilton Veteran Rick Vaughn, Gene DeLoach, Bob Self, Ira Kirby and Rance Phillips to celebrate Veterans Day with the 102nd anvil shoot. Dressed in the World War I uniform, Vaughn is a member of the American Legion Color Guard in Glen Rose. He spent 12 years in the Marine Corp and is a Vietnam Veteran. Vaughn graduated from Hamilton High School in 1964.

TRAILER WINNER - Maureen Baconhouse won the cargo trailer donated by Gatesville RV Sales and Service benefitting the Veterans Memorial. Johnny Clepper donated a handmade knife that was won by Gary and Tami Carr of Azle.

Remembering history: Museum celebrates 25 years in operation

The community is thankful for the efforts of those involved with the Hamilton County Historical Museum and they are celebrating their 25 th anniversary this year.

For those unfamiliar with the museum, it is located at 115 W. Henry St., and contains multiple buildings including the old jail.

HCHM President Coni Guinn said it’s an honor to be able to preserve the history of Hamilton County while teaching about the past.

“At one time there were 112 schools in Hamilton County,” she said. “Back in 1910.”

A fruity holiday season

This time of year, you can easily find candy canes, hot cocoa, gingerbread cookies, and other holiday treats. Another sweet treat, packed with vitamin C and potassium, that you can easily find during the winter is oranges! In fact, during the winter months all citrus fruits are in season, meaning they are at peak flavor and often on sale.

Community Center offers meal for Thanksgiving

The Hamilton Community Center offers free, hot meals Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for anyone who would like to come by and eat.
