Dear Editor, I would like to echo same sentiments expressed by Ms. Parsons (Lamkin community) per her LTE in last weeks paper (Aug 17, 2023). I and many other users of the “Brightspeed” (formerly Century Link) land line phone system are plagued by same intermittent outage described by Ms. Parsons. I’m talking about a wide area of coverage in the Gentry’s Mill and Lamkin communities out NW of Hamilton and likely beyond. We have been fighting this poor service battle with Century Link and Brightspeed for around two or more years now. I’ve been told that some people have contacted the Texas Public Utilities Commission, such as Ms. Parsons states she has done. This effort seems to have NOT produced any satisfactory results. I think it’s time for all affected residents in the affected area to contact some of our applicable state representatives and see if they actually care about the wellbeing of rural residents as they say they do. Yes, as an attempted alternative, some of us use a cell phone, but, some locations have major problems receiving a signal for these phones. Some are marginally usable to not usable at all. Some cell phones can be used by going outside one’s house some place and pivoting around in a circle to sometime find a usable signal. I invite anyone to try this during some of our extreme weather conditions or other unique situations I’ve heard about. This is primitive and totally unacceptable in todays claims of modern technology and progress!!
