Eva Newton

Eva F. Newton, 97, wife of the late Dulan D. D. Newton, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018, in Hamilton.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 19, 2010, and her sons Robin in 2008 and Nevin in 2011.

Born Nov. 29, 1920, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, to Joel Fasnacht and Laura Springer Fasnacht, Eva had nine brothers, Jacob, Edwin, Ivan, Alvin, Harvey, Joel Jr., Samuel, Lloyd and Roy. She grew up on a dairy farm in Blainsport, Pennsylvania. The family was associated with the Church of the Brethren.

Eva met her husband Dulan when he was in the forestry service with her brother Roy. They were married Nov. 2, 1946, in Goldthwaite. In March 1947, the couple moved to Lancaster County, where they spent the next 35 years.

Eva and Dulan had three sons, Rodney, Nevin and Robin.

In 1982, Dulan retired from work at New Holland Machine and the couple moved to Texas. Eva was a longtime member of the Park Heights Church of Christ in Hamilton.

Although her formal education ended with the eighth grade, Eva was an avid reader throughout her life. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing and was member of a 20-voice a cappella girls’ choir growing up.

Over the years, she enjoyed keeping in touch with dozens of friends and relatives, rising early in the morning to write letters on her typewriter.

A hard worker, she was a prolific quilter and accomplished cook. She was famous for trying new recipes and for her traditional Pennsylvania Dutch cooking, such as the fried pastries that share her maiden name, “fasnachts,” which are made for Fastnacht, the Tuesday before Lent.

Eva was laid to rest at Eastview Cemetery, Hamilton County, on May 12, 2018.

She leaves her son Rodney Newton and wife Pamela; daughters-in-law Jane P. Newton and Debra Newton; grandchildren Yvonne Koteras, Miles Newton, Rebecca Abbit, Joel Newton, Isaac Newton, Amy Viera and Trevor Newton; great-grandchildren Cody Kennedy, Rae Wright, Maizy Newton, Leah Newton, Aaliyah Newton and Kenley Newton; great-great-grandchildren Bentley Wright and Ryder Kennedy; and numerous cousins and friends.
