Nelda Hlavaty


Nelda Dora Kauitzsch Karasek Hlavaty, 88, passed away May 4, 2018, in Hamilton.

Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pottsville on Monday, May 7, with burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Riley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hlavaty was born Feb. 24, 1930, to Ida Wagner Kauitzsch and Adolph G. Kauitzsch in Pottsville. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pottsville.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Alvin and Raymond Kauitzsch; husband Leamon Karasek and husband B.J. Hlavaty.

She married Leamon March 12, 1947, and raised three children all while working 29 years at Xerox in Arlington.

She married B.J. in West on May 11, 1996.

In 2007, she moved back home to Pottsville. She enjoyed a long life of dancing, gardening and beer drinking.

Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Avery and husband Allen of Arlington; son, Wesley Karasek and wife Deanna of Jacksboro; son Ronald Karasek of Pottsville; five grandchildren, Kristi Dover and husband Greg, Wendy LeSage and husband Santino, Travis Karasek and wife Maria, Sarah Reed and husband Justin, Amy Heathcoat and husband Jeremy, seven great-grandchildren; and many friends and relatives.

Pallbearers were Travis Karasek, Greg Dover, Santino LeSage, Justin Reed, Gregory Dover, Dylan Karasek and Zach DeLong.
