Beginning in 1956 in Santa Anna, she started a teaching career that covered a span of 41 years. She began teaching business/commercial classes, but eventually became a math teacher and concluded her career teaching seventh grade math in Plano at Schimelpfenig Middle School.

Her excellence in teaching and commitment to her students and coworkers earned her the Teacher of the Year Award for the Plano Independent School District in the 1990s. She had a gift of making learning fun while retaining high expectations for student learning. She retired in May 1997.
