Hamilton lawmen will duke it out Saturday on the square for the watermelon eating contest during Junkin’ Journey.

The trio – Sheriff Justin Caraway, Isaac Partain and Police Chief Keith Madison – have promised stiff competition for the coveted Watermelon King medal.

Vendors for the Junkin’ Journey will be set up 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hamilton Police Department and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office will serve free hot dogs donated by Brookshire Brothers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Uncle Sam will be wandering the crowd.

There also will be face painting, balloon twistin, train rides and inflatables.

The watermelon contest is at 10 a.m., and other activities begin at 10:30 a.m.

In the evening, fireworks will be launched from Pecan Creek Park’s amphitheater area.

Free vendor spaces are available; call 254-386-3216 for information.
