Hamilton’s young readers can explore all things musical this summer at Hamilton Public Library, 201 N. Pecan.

Readers ages 5 to 12 are invited to “Libraries Rock” during HPL’s Summer Reading Program July 10-13, 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Activities will include group games, musical crafts, art projects, science and engineering experiments, snacks, story time and prize drawings.

To entertain and encourage love of music, several musicians will perform on the back patio during Summer Reading Program. Come listen to the guitar, harmonica, cello, ukulele, flute and French horn. The public is welcome to bring lawn chairs, sit under the tent and enjoy local talent each morning.

Pre-registration for Summer Reading Program is recommended as space is limited.  For more information, call the library at 386-3474 or visit hamilton-public-library.org.

The program is free.

Since the summer began, 316 Hamilton children have taken 949 AR tests at HPL.

One day, 42 testers came in, according to library helper Stacey Moore.

Another day, 147 tests were taken. First graders have begun AR testing, and it is estimated that 2230 books have been read by children in this first month of summer vacation.

Checkouts by patrons of all ages have ranged from 500 to 709 each week this summer.
