A fish fry fundraiser is planned for this Sunday, Jan. 14, at City Café in Gustine to benefit four Gustine-area families affected by tragic accidents in the past two weeks.

Auric Lewis Pena, 7, and Joshua Dean McDearmon, 35, died in a Dec. 23 car crash three miles south of Proctor in Comanche County; and Jonathan Alejandro Escamilla, 20, of Dublin died in a two-vehicle crash Jan. 2 four miles east of Gustine in Comanche County.

Pena’s mother and siblings, along with Samantha McMillan and her children of Dublin were injured in the Dec. 23 accident; and Manuel Jose Escamilla, 17, was injured in the Jan. 2 accident.

The fundraiser will include live music and an auction, plus a menu of fried fish, French fries, beans, hushpuppies and homemade desserts and will be held 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Live music will be provided by Lana Chapman, Clayton Landau and others.

The auction has begun on Facebook (Gustine Benefit Auction), and will continue at the café on Sunday. There also will be a silent auction at the café.

Auction items so far include a 5-cubic foot freezer donated by Rountree Appliance; two handmade rocking chairs by Hope House; a hog hunt with dogs by Ray Talamantez; eight hours of plumbing service by Billy Gordon; eight hours of lawn service by Josh Philips; 8x16 all-metal storage building on metal skids with rollup door constructed by Hope House by Hamilton Pipe Co.; black angus beef by Evans Farms; $250 value inside and outside  window, screen, track and seal cleaning, $250 value, by Window Cleaning Service; and $300 Lularoe wardrobe.
