Ann Whitney Elementary and Hamilton Junior High students participated in a special reading activity called Book-in-a-Day Nov. 17.

This activity is similar to the One Book - One Community activity that Hamilton Public Library and the Friends of the Public Library group have organized in past years.

Students in third through eighth grades read the same historical fiction novel, Towers

Falling by Jewell Parker Rhodes. The reading of this novel was the focus of the entire day of instruction. The book was chosen by members of the Texas Library Association as one of 20 nominated titles competing for the 2017-18 Texas Bluebonnet Award.

Book-in-a-Day is designed to strengthen the bonds between teachers and students by having this common reading experience to connect back to over the course of the school year. Special reading activities like this place reading in the spotlight and promote excitement about future reading opportunities.
